7.5 upgrade - Redirecting old paths to new media paths

The VPP Migrating guide provides a redirct class for old content paths. Should this class redirect old pagecontent paths such as images as well? For example, i have the following image link which is broken: 

Titelbild

This link generates a broken permanent link: "/link/0168d0f4d9a64b5ab0cfbb33d82f63b1.aspx?id=589"

Now, i can manually get the new correct path by changing the link to:Titelbild, however shouldnt the redirect class provided in the VPP guide do this for me?
