Episerver CMS - how to ignore a folder in the root

Was looking around but didn't have any luck.

Is there a way for Episerver to ignore a folder in the root?   Right now it's just static content in a folder, but it might eventually be an application in a different app pool.

It appears to work for static content when not a virtual directory with web.config....   I'll have to explore it further.   Might come back here.
