Menu in Edit Mode

Hi, When going into Edit mode, we have a problem that the menu does not expand when clicked on. Unfortunately, it seems that this is occuring randomly and is definately occuring more frequently. Can anyone suggest a course of action to remedy this? Thanks Arthur
